Statement: |
The study
of human anatomy, as inspiration for artisitic expression,
has been a consistent and ubiquitous force in Western art
since the 16th century. Michelangelo Buonarroti surreptitiously
dissected cadavers during his visits to a Florentine morgue
and gained and insight into man's corporeality that resulted
in some of the greatest works produced during the High Renaissance.
The achievements of European artists and anatomists - including
pioneers like Leonardo da Vinci, Versalius, and Gabriele
Fallopio - has continued to provide the foundation for drawing
and artistic studies even today. |
