Jeff Murphy was born in Dayton, Ohio and is currently an Assistant
Professor of Electronic Media at the University of North Carolina
at Charlotte. He received his BFA from Ohio State University
in 1989 and his MFA from the University of Florida in 1995.
Recently, he was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship from
the North Carolina Arts Council, which he is using to continue
his series, Leap of Faith.
A major conceptual and thematic aspect of my work has
always been the search for religious identity. My work
examines the role of the spiritual in a contemporary
framework that deifies technology and looks to technology
My newest works use the latest archival and UV resistant
pigments in the printing process. The files are composite,
collaged images created using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe
Illustrator, and Fractal Design Painter. The works begin
as imagery photographed in a studio using a digital
camera. They are then manipulated digitally and printed
directly onto HP Studio Canvas.
